Yes, it's fagtastic, but I *do* want to see Wicked. I know it sounds stereotypical, but I'd also like to see Rent. All my butch bear friends can commence throwing stones NOW!
Current Mood:FAGTASTIC
Current Music:Rent Soundtrack-- "The Tango Maureen"
I just didn't get the appeal of Rent when it was a play, and I thought the music was more fake-rock-and-rolly....
....but there's something about the movie trailers that makes me think it might gel together better on screen - certainly, the music sounds a bit better.
Hell, I won't throw stones -- I so want to see Wicked, and I've seen Rent onstage twice now (once with the horrid Constatine Maroulis of American Idol fame. :: cringe ::), so I can't say anything ^o^
You are not alone. They all say they don't know it, but go to sidetracks on sunday or monday, and the defying gravity clip comes up and we all go crazy. And if you look real hard, you'll see a bunch of bearded faces with tears running down the side, or hairy forearms raised up miming Elphaba in her moment of triumph.
I'm just saying. Good musical theater has the ability to make us all fans. Wicked is good contemporary musical theater.
My company is selling half-priced tickets and if I were free on the days listed, i'd see it again, one each of the nights.
And i'm not even as big of a fan of Wicked as others I know.
Rent? Its a film musical, how can i not go see it?
dude, I saw Wicked three times in a week back in August. It's fucking GREAT. Try for the lottery in Chicago - you can win front row tickets for $25 (night of show)
Wicked was wonderful entertainment. Highly, heartily recommended. It doesn't pretend to be important. It succeeds at being both clever and a touch devious. On the other hand, Rent tries to be important, failed to be clever, and bored me. One bear's opinion...
My views on Rent are pretty well known....HATED IT! I haven't seen Wicked yet, but having listened to the CD several times, I'm not keeping my hopes up too high. If you have the musical theater itch, Chicago will be playing at the Cadillac Theater in late November, early December. I would see that one WAY before either of the other two.
I've see both in NYC on the same weekend. Rent dissappointed when I finally saw it, but I think that it was because the production was getting a little tired. I have a friend who worked on the original production before it went to Broadway and I have a picture of me holding the Tony! (gloat) I saw Wicked with the original cast. I have trouble imagining it with anyone else on tour. It was fun, but certainly not great art. The tour seemed to be playing in every city I visited last summer from Portland to SF to Chicago to Atlanta. I felt like I was being stalked! LOL
