Is it just me or have the men featured on BearFilms this past year, with a few exceptions, just been amazingly meh? No VeniceCubs like the days of yore, just a steady stream of guys who fail to trip my trigger, each new model only notable for how much he looks exactly like LAST weeks model.

I would think the smart porn money is on knowing what your audience wants... cubs, chubs, redheads or a unique look. After the first four years or so it seemed like BearFilms catered more to the taste of the photographer than the audience's. For a few years, the majority of the fellows were buzzcut beefy boys and now... eh. The steady stream of mediocrity is hard to criticize if only because it fails to excite even enough attention to care.

Is BearFilms just missing the mark lately or what?

Well, I know of one scene filmed recently involving said Venicecub that you'll want to be on the lookout for (and no, I wasn't involved). Just saying.

I haven't really peeked at BF.com in a while but they have always sorta had the "more is more" business model of basically inviting anyone who is willing to make some porn with them. The results are videos where you might have one scene where everyone involved is hot (to you).

I mean, even my most favorite vid of their doing (Midnight Growlers) has guys I'm not all that into doing some enjoyable stuff to each other.

And if it doesn't come through for you, well, there's always xTube...

I think they just narrowed thier audience. Plus it's always what the photographer likes, especially if he is also the owner operator.

I would like to see some numbers on if they are still selling at a high pace but if they are, then it is just a product of speialzkg those audiences. Large mainstream companies can keep several lines of film going with different branding but one brand can not be all things for all people. I don't find the current models hot but I think a large enough number do to keep the profitable. Then again maybe they are like biggercity and own multiple brands spacing the out in the market to appeal to different demographics. I might like the heavyset brand and it's BIG boys but others might like the hefty works bran with younger smaller boys.

In the end, I'd like to see some numbers but it reasonable to think bearfilms has narrowed thief focus towards lovers of leaner, somewhat older guys with an emphasis sometimeson rougher trade. I can see how that decision could be profitable.

There are other avenues now: cyberbears especially has targeted a more big-man friendly audience. Atticmen seems to be aiming for the treasure island media spot with risky behavior and cheaper values but big men are there often.

I hate to say it, but, since Andy Dill died, they seem to be a little adrift.

It's harder to stand out in a market that is pretty flooded with homemade bear porn too. They have their work cut out for them.

I was really hoping you'd chime in.

What always set BearFilms apart for me was that it was real, visceral men going at one another with reckless abandon and (occasionally) decent sound, lighting & clear camera work. I can only look at so much homemade Bear Porn before I get tired of the crap lighting, single angle and unwillingness to engage in hardcore sex acts I like.

Aside from CyberBears, which specializes in larger guys, BearFilms is the only pro bear studio putting out decently filmed (albeit less-inspiring) bear porn consistently.

Though I am a fan of Pig Daddy Productions, Atticmen & XXXL Productions.

Interesting you should bring this up! I've felt exactly the same way. I think things took a major nose dive when the original producer left the company. I always thought he was more open to what audiences wanted to see. As a matter of fact, he and I chatted frequently about what kind of requests he got at the website. By coincidence, I've been chatting online with venicecub now and then, and there's a new film coming out called "Bears of Venice" with venicecub featured in all the scenes, shot by the original producer/photographer.. They just finished shooting a few weeks ago. That photographer has also just finished filming a new one in Denver that's all mountain bears, and all new faces(so to speak). Maybe some of the flavor of the earlier films will be reappearing!

I met Venicecub at a bear run in Portland several years ago. The Bearfilms producer introduced me. I've met him several times since. Always gives me a big smooch. He's a very nice guy. I guess he got to pic all the co-stars in the new film.

It's a hookup site from what I have seen. I sigend up a couple of years ago because a friend recommended it to me without telling me exactly what it was. You had to register to see content, so I did and then found out that it's a piggy hook up site. They changed some rules not long after I logged on that you had to submit some shirtless pic of yourself holding a sign with the date on it. Since I'm not one to jump through fucking hoops to look at a few dirty pictures, and I wasn't using it to hook up, I declined, so they booted me.

That's just my perception of it. I'm sure others could explain it better. lol

I would go even further. Traveling to a number of the bear events as a vendor, I've found a number of models are actually rather stuck up on themselves. Some wont even acknowledge a simple 'hello' or when they do, its with an attitude and an air of 'I'm not interested' as if they assume you want to come on to them. I am sure a lot of men DO say hello as a prelude to coming on to them, but they SHOULD be EXPECTING that kind of attention. That doesn't mean you need to treat everyone like they are your fans... I just wanted to ask this one guy the time and didn't realize who he was until later. He looked at me like I farted on him. Me personally, once I realize your a prick, I have no interest in you what so ever. That has been MY problem with them. MOST of the ones I have met have been about as friendly as a thumbtack. Just hadda get that out.

I do like the look of many of the men of late, but yes, I AM tired of all the clones. Don't get me wrong, I think most of them are hot as hell and if I thought I had a chance in hell of a roll in the hay (or just a good strong fuck) with some of them, I most certainly would. However, what I AM bored of is that same look. They look alike much like so many porn actors of the 70's had the Burt Reynolds look. I am tired of what is quickly becoming less of a bear clone and more of a bear cliche. This is of course regarding my tastes in PORN. Some of their early stuff is painful to watch. You can see feet scurrying out of shots and the lead cords going to the Home Depot theatrical lighting. But it remains hot. Raw action in a hotel room or some other stripped down locale.
Their stuff also had bareback, which for some is still a very taboo subject. A friend of ours is an actor for them and told us that the backers threatened to pull out (!!!) if they didn't stop doing bareback.
There are two actors that hang out at the campground where we were this past weekend. It's honestly a little annoying as when folks discover that they are there it's like Sam and Linds showed up at the club. People get all goofy and tongue-tied. They are hot, but in person, meh.
And, for my money, Massive Studio is the place to go. Great films, great actors, quality stuff.
However, I will still hold on to my Bear Films DVDs with Steve Ellis. DAMN! That is one hot red head.

When I did stuff fore Bearfilms, they put condoms on a dresser on the other side of the room and said, "now if you WANT to bareback, we won't stop you..."

Since I did the film with two of my partners, we didn't use condoms. I only topped my ex-John and no other fucking took place as I recall. That twenty minute scence was filmed over a grueling 8 hours filled with too many crew, hot lights and a random guy jerking off in the corner.

To my memory it was like making porn in a sweat shop.

That being said, the early Bearfilms stuff is HOT. Amazingly hot, immediate, visceral and raw. It's what drew me to the movies in the first place. Now it all just seems written in, spiritless and formulaic.

I've never much been into bearfilms or cyberbears because usually...as stated over and over above me....they seem to be a little dull, amateurish I guess. Some of the guys in some of them (ahem) are incredibly hot and handsome...but most of them still just seem a little boring to me.

And ...um...some of the guys in some of the films, I've had the chance to play around with. In person....wowwwwwwwwwwwww.....incredible. On film....kinda dull...but that might just be because I wasn't in on that action.

well, i was originally paired up with one guy, and when they sent me his pic, I was like "hehe..um..no thanks", so then they paired me up with another guy from orlando...bigger bear. the only problem, was they had him set to be the "top", but he wasn't a top...so there was very minimal fucking in our clip. they have some pics of it up. we're under the title "bears will be bears"

and yes, when I lived in Tampa I got to play with Andrew....fucked in every room of his house...he even threw me up on his dinner room table and pounded my ass ;)
