Road Trippin' in February...

For those of you who may wish to lock up your cubs when I'm in town, here's my travel itinerary for February:

February 3rd through February 5th-- St. Louis-- A bit of hang time with bearguy1976

February 16th through February 19th-- San Francisco-- International Bear Rendezvous

This will be my very first IBR and my very first trip to San Francisco. I'm anxious to see the more touristy locales, as I'm less interested in the circuit bear set outside of a few events.

Any sage advice regarding either IBR or San Francisco would be greatly appreciated.

My advice is thus: Park your car and leave it there. Take Muni or BART to get around the city. Parking in SF sucks and it's not worth it trying to take your car to go from place to place.

Second, I think you should detour through Phoenix and tell a Phoenix Cub hi and give him a hug. :-)

UGH! I wrote this long post and it disappeared when I tried to post it. Long story short:

1. Check the weather before you pack. SF is chilly and rainy in February.

2. Parking in SF is horrific. Take a door to door shuttle from SFO to the hotel and take public transit. Public transit runs everywhere in SF. Here's a map: http://transit.511.org/providers/maps/SF_928200510805.pdf.

3. Us locals are very friendly (just ask stripedtiger), but most of us are going to be dazed and confused by IBR. Do not let this trip be your only impression of SF. We don't party every day with wild abandon. I only say this because it's inevitable that someone comes to IBR for the first time and has a cathartic experience, moves here 3 months later, then hates it because it wasn't all they expected.

4. SF is a beautiful sity. Explore it!

Maybe I'll see you on the 16th. I'll be at the SF Eagle that night to see "SheLO," a drag ELO cover band. It's a group of Bears who do a parody cover band each year. Last year it was Meatwood Flac and the year before it was Fat Bottom Girls. then I'm leaving town on the 17th for Palm Springs.

My first and ONLY time to SF and IBR was a GREAT experience. Yes, I got laid a lot in the two weeks I was there but I more enjoyed the scenery of the Warf. I'm still pissed that I never go to go to Chinatown. I will some day. The weather for me (being from Alaska at that time) was VERY NICE. Mainly in the 70s the whole time I was there. Public transportation IS the best way to get around. Saves the hassle of trying to find parking like everyone says. Make sure you have lots of room on your camera for pics. Keep in mind that, "yeah, it's a great place but to live there is fucking outrageous". Great place to visit and have fun and then go home and pass out from exhaustion. Just remember, you can sleep on the plane on the way home. *EG*

Never been to IBR... But have been to St. Louis. Heard that some of the locals are pretty scary though. :)
