Why does it seem to me that those in the Creative Arts (poetry, writing, film, and ACTING especially) seem to be the flakiest, most shifty, drama-laden men I know? I write poetry & I'm not unstable... I want to find people in the Arts that aren't loopy. Each writer, poet, or filmmaker I've dated has been idiosyncratic and a mite strange. Not necessarily bad but, well, different.

Actors are RIGHT out though. Every professional Actor I've known has been a HUGE freak, dripping with drama & bitterness.

I WANT to be proven wrong here...

Does anyone know stable acting folks? Did I just get to know the wrong 9 actors? I'm trying not to judge people by their profession, but DAMN.

next time I'm in a show I'll look for a stable actor, of course, not being in show is how i keep stable... hmmm...

although I've danced in a number of productions and have written hundreds of pages of poems, I rarely call myself a dancer and NEVER a poet.

It's fine to say "I've danced" or "I've written poetry", but in my experience most of the people who call either of those a profession generally have 'issues' by the pound.

That's a largely unfair generalization, of course, but oh well :)

One of the reasons I'm a director/writer is because I'm way too stable to be an actor.

This post resonated with me, trust me.

Really though, the average joe on the street can be a flake. It's all a matter of perspective, some flakes don't see others as flakes and vice versa, even though to someone like me, they both might be.

Okay... Im 'bout to scare you... I am an actor, a published poet AND writer, and I dance, sing, and drum.

I know you have read some of my posts... I have my own baggage, but I like to think I am a bit stable. Flakey? Yes, but that may just be dandruff...I dont know.

My theatre friends tell me it's the unsuccessful actors (wannabees) who are the difficult and bitter ones.

I don't know if I'd restrict it to people in the arts - intensely creative people in any field are deeply into their discipline and so tend to let "mundane" stuff slide. Think of the truly creative programmers, mathematicians etc you've known - many are brilliant in their field but have often not had the time to learn even very besic social skills. And also, when you are dredging around in that fertile muck that grows the best ideas, it makes you a bit strange.
