A Peaceable Report
Jul. 25th, 2006 09:31 amI took the day off yesterday from journaling to relax & recoup my faculties. I know I've been writing a lot lately and that's a trend I'd like to keep rolling. Yesterday, however, I was happy to unplug a bit.
Friday I was still reeling from the week and I had a massive migraine all day; my mood was foul and I can only remember most of Friday in a haze. Friday was slow and my co-workers pretty much dropped any pretense of work by 1:30. I kept going, but that's because I'm hardcore. I went home to find Mike had made my favorite comfort food, spaghetti, along with the best garlic bread this side of heaven. I spent the night with him fussing over me and watching the Sci Fi channel in a slack-jawed haze.
Have I mentioned how much I love that man?
Saturday morning Mike & I hit the Cracker Barrel with
bigbadwoof and
gryphonbear for a "family breakfast". We had a leisurely meal and then hit Fry's Electronics for some consumerism balm for our weary post-modern souls. Later in the evening we met them and a whole passel of bears for
dedos' birthday party at Ole Ole, a brilliant Cuban/Mexican restaurant. The rest of the crew headed to Big Chicks while I got the added super-special bonus prize of going to my sleep study at 10 pm.
Ten O' Clock on a Saturday. *ugh* Jim went to a rather kick-ass closing party at the Aragon and Mike & Shane represented the Koala Munchies tribe at the bar. I, on the other hand, got to do my best impression of a cyborg with innumerable wires attached to my face, legs and head. Anyone whose had a sleep study can tell you it's difficult to sleep with the guts of a Radio Shack store glued to you, but I managed, for a bit.
At one point on the edge of sleep or dreaming, I was sure that the chair next to me was occupied by a female presence, which I dreamt of like some shadowy Salvador Dali painting of an old East Indian woman. She had hungry, bitter eyes and was whispering something to me, and I knew if I heard it, and understood it my heart would stop in my chest.
I bolted up so fast that Mila, the kindly Eastern European technician, had to spend twenty minutes rewiring me to the nodes.
I was picked up by Shane at 5:30 in the morning and Sunday was spent about the house until I drug him out to go comic & game shopping. Of course, a headache cut things short for the day and we headed home to relax and let the weight of the weekend wash off of us. Shane was a doll the next day and drove me into work, green tea lemonade in hand and the day was good, and far better still was the evening, but those thoughts belong in a more private forum.
I have been given Rhinocort and a CPAP prescription to help me muddle through the problem I've been having of late, and for the first time after using the Rhinocort Nasal Spray I woke up WITHOUT a headache. Not being in pain is such a simple joy, and I was energized the whole day, simply from not being in pain.
Also of note: I opted to take a medical Incomplete in my summer course due to the stress & fatigue I've been under. I hate it, and it feels so much like failure I can't stand it, but it's the right thing for me at the moment. I'll make up the work at a human pace over the next few weeks.
