I find it very telling after watching the SciFi Channel's Who Wants To Be A Superhero? that Stan Lee chose to oust Levity, the gay toymaker who wanted to provide a role-model instead of the Iron Enforcer, who generally went on about killing people and mocked the other contestants openly. Levity was sent packing because he was deemed selfish, when a clip was aired wherein he was asked if he'd make millions off of an action figure of himself. He said yes, in an awkard way, not at all with dollar signs in his eyes.

Reality TV editing at its finest.

The message *I* got was that a jag-off buff self-styled "killer" is more heroic than some gay toymaker looking to provide another gay role-model. Or should I say less threatening?

And the rage quotient goes up a notch.

It's been a long time since Stan "The Man" has been relevant in the comics world.

It's easier to draw boobs and guns.

C'mon! Have you not SEEN the crotch-bulges that some of these heroes have? I swear, you'd think that having a hardon while fighting crime was a requirement.

He was deemed selfish because he came up with the action figure first and not Lee. How DARE he take money from the coffers of Stan Lee! Instead of making millions and millions of dollars off the deal, Lee will only make millions!

Bleh. I wasn't impressed with him. I realize he wasn't on long, but he didn't come across as very superhero-y. Also, maybe it was the editing, but I almost felt like he was using 'gay' as his shtick, which is... ugh.

However, I find it interesting that Lee is sticking to old-school hero qualities, considering I'm pretty sure there are current superheroes who are power-hungry, trigger-happy, or sexually-driven.

I haven't seen the show as I have a deep rooted hatred for reality TV for some reason.

I can say though that Marvel does have at least one gay super hero. Northstar from Alpha Flight is openly gay. I unfortunatly stepped away from comic collecting a few years back, but there was a story line that was hinting heavily that Shatterstar from X-Force liked some male on male actions. I am thinking there may have been some lesbians running about too, but I can't think of who at the moment.

Ooh, best not to bring up Northstar and, with him, the whole "He's not gay, he's just a fairy" debacle.

Bleech. I hadn't heard of that so I ended up looking it up. Since I found an article on wikipidia, it took me a good portion of the say to actually finish reading the article with all the little side quests I ended up taking. =)

I am glad Marvel retcon the whole fairy thing and later actually allowed the character to "come out".
