A question for all those with mad layout skillz in MS Word or MS Publisher:

How do I take a background graphic, like a Star Trek LCARS and format it for use as a backround I can insert text over?

I'm looking at making player hand outs for games & would love to know.

Thanks!

In Word...

Format -> Background -> Fill Effects -> Picture Tab -> Select Picture (will insert as a background on the image)

I used to have an LCARS cell phone wallpaper, but now it's a hairy man with a shaved head... *trails off*

In Publisher:
Insert the picture into your publication then,

Right-click the picture you want to change.
Click Format Picture.
In the Format Picture dialog box, click the Picture tab.
Under Image control, click Washout in the Color list, and then click Recolor.
In the Recolor Picture dialog box, select the color you want for the watermark.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
In the Format Picture dialog box, select any other options you want, and then click OK.
On the Arrange menu, point to Order, and then click Send to Back.

In the Star Trek universe, LCARS (an acronym for Library Computer Access and Retrieval System), is a computer operating system used on Federation starships. Within Star Trek chronology, the term was first used in Star Trek: The Next Generation and in subsequent shows. In a real-world context, the term "LCARS" is frequently used to describe the style of the computer displays of the LCARS system, especially the screens from The Next Generation. The term "Okudagrams," named for Michael Okuda, the designer of the graphics, is also used to refer to this style. The design is popular among Star Trek fansites.

I have so much to teach you...

Teach him quick. I need to know this for a game he'll eventually be playing in.
