So: What if I just said "Fuck It" and abandoned my plans to limp along to an associates degree at College of DuPage and just enrolled in an evening Bachelor's degree program at Northwestern University or DePaul University? Why limp towards mediocrity when I can just start making my way towards a decent degree in Economics from a university I won't be ashamed to graduate from?
I've received nothing but bad advice from counselors thus far. Why not just disregard it and GO?
So, what if?
I don't like my chances at getting into Northwestern, but for the time & $50 to apply I may as well try, right? If I apply for fall now, I might be able to square everything away quickly.
Why not?

Wouldn't the most cost-sensitive plan be to enroll in an evening or part time program at a community college with plans to transfer to Northwestern or DePaul? You could save money and have better chances of getting with a good academic record.

Date: 2009-04-06 09:14 pm (UTC)For me it's financial and also the scope of the AA is more pin-pointed to a certain aspect of what I'm going for.
I made sure the colleges I plan on doing this with had easy and good records for credit transfers to make sure my time spent at the technical school wasn't wasted but yeah, the technical college is about 70% cheaper (currently I'm taking 15 credit hours for about $600) than the four-year university and if I can get about 60% of the credit toward my bachelor's from it - that's what I'm doing!
Plus, the way the lottery scholarships work in Georgia (so, ymmv) I'll have established semesters/quarters of education so that I'm eligible for the GRANT and not just the loan thus making my time at the 4 year college less expensive as well. (although I'm still researching how that will all work out)

I do find in-person attendance to have a good effect on my ability to understand and retain info.
