Dumb Love is a Losing Game

Here's how my life works:

Me to a friend: "Don't date that man, he'll screw you over. He has screwed ALL his boyfriends over. And given them the clap. A searing case. More like applause, really. Like nearly every one of them. Why do you think he's moved so much?"

Them: "It's True Love! You are unfair and spiteful. My new true love has told me this! Good-bye!"

Them, 6 months to a year later: "Why didn't you warn me about him? My urine is a jet of flame! I hate you!"

Me: "Sigh."

It's called low self-esteem and poor body image issues. So that when somebody comes up and says "wow, you're so hot" they assume it's true love and want to do and believe everything said flatterer says to them. It's kinda depressing to watch a friend go through it.

i will admit you warned me about a certain someone, and i didn't listen to you.. and then i got burned bad.. (not std burn mind you). But i do remember admitting after the fact that you were right and i should have listened to you.

I've seen this kind of situation come up a lot, except I usually skip the first part; I don't feel it's my place to say "Even though you have been dating this person for a month, and I have only known about him for 5 minutes, you really ought to trust my gut feelings and run away immediately!", so I bite my lip, hope things work out for the best, and when they invariably don't, offer my shoulder to cry on. Is there a reasonable way to deal with this without looking like as a complete jerk?

this is the second instance in a week that i've read about people moving alot equating to something negative.
it makes sense, sometimes, but just remember, not all of us travellin' type are bad :)
